About Flatwood Land Clearing Palm Bay

A land clearing company for Palm Bay and the Space Coast: what it clears, the rules every scope is checked against, and how to reach a person.

Flatwood Land Clearing Palm Bay offers land clearing in Palm Bay, Florida, and the surrounding parts of Brevard and north Indian River County. It is a service company that offers and manages land clearing work, carried out by licensed and insured contractors. The work is clearing house lots, forestry mulching, brush clearing, clearing and grubbing, stump grinding and debris hauling, scoped against the tree and clearing rules of the place where the lot sits.

What is in scope, and what is not

Clearing covers what grows on the land and what it leaves behind: trees, palmetto, brush, vines and invasive plants such as Brazilian pepper, the stumps and roots where the finish needs them out, and the debris. Clearing stops where earthwork starts. Fill, pad building, grading, drainage swales, ponds and demolition belong to the next trade, and each scope names them as such so nothing falls between the two.

Standards every scope is checked against

A clearing scope here starts from the rules, not from the machine. Inside Palm Bay that is the city's Land Development Code, Chapter 175: the tree removal and small residential site land clearing permit for lots under an acre, the site sketch of every tree 6 inches or more across, and barricades at the critical root zone of each tree kept. In unincorporated Brevard it is the county's small-scale land clearing permit, and in other towns their own ordinances, confirmed per address.

State and federal rules sit on top: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission permits for work within 25 feet of a gopher tortoise burrow, Palm Bay's federal scrub-jay permit, state permits for work in wetlands, and Florida Forest Service rules that keep most platted lots from burning their debris. The permit guide and the lot clearing checklist lay these out.

Where the work is

The service area is Palm Bay and south Brevard (Malabar, Grant-Valkaria, Melbourne, West Melbourne, Melbourne Village, Micco), north Indian River County (Sebastian, Roseland), and north and central Brevard (Titusville, Rockledge, Cocoa, Viera and Suntree). Each service area page covers what differs there: who issues the permit, the soils and wet seasons, and the protected trees.

How a job runs

  1. First call. The address, lot size, what is planned and what should stay. Whether the building permit has been applied for is asked here, because Palm Bay’s clearing permit depends on it. A few phone photos are enough to start a scope.
  2. Site visit. The lot is walked to mark keepers, check for gopher tortoise burrows and wet ground, and look at access from the street.
  3. Written scope. The scope names the method for each area, the stump plan and where the debris goes, so two quotes can be compared line by line.
  4. Clearing. With permits in hand, root zone barricades go up around kept trees first. Then the vegetation comes down, building areas are grubbed where the finish calls for it, and debris is chipped, mulched or loaded out.
  5. Hand-off walk. The finished lot is walked against the scope. Anything still ahead, such as fill, grading, erosion control or replacement planting, is named so the next trade starts on time.

How pricing works

There is no flat rate per lot. A price comes from what grows there, how many stumps come out and how, the access, and where the debris goes, so each job is priced from its written scope after the site visit. For planning before that, the cost calculator and the lot clearing cost guide show national budgeting ranges and what pushes a lot toward the high end. Permit and mitigation fees are set by the city or county and are separate.
